Borussia Düsseldorf Advances to European Champions League Semi-Finals
In a thrilling quarter-final match, Borussia Düsseldorf secured their place in the semi-finals of the European Champions League with a hard-fought 3:1 victory over Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier TT. The sold-out Borussia home stadium was buzzing with excitement as 1100 spectators watched the action unfold at the Arag Center Court.
The star of the show was Dang Qiu, the world-ranked 9 table tennis player. Qiu played a pivotal role in Borussia's victory, defeating Alexis Lebrun, world-ranked 10, in a decisive match. He also triumphed over Lebrun's brother Felix, world-ranked 5, in a closely contested match. Qiu's impressive performance saw him win all three of his matches against Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier opponents with scores of 3:0 in each game.
Timo Boll, the veteran table tennis professional and world-ranked 15, also shone for Borussia. Boll, aged 43, extended his active Champions League career until May/June with a win against Antoine Hachard. This victory also marked a significant milestone in Boll's career, extending his record in the active Champions League.
However, Borussia's journey to the semi-finals was not without its challenges. Anton Källberg, another key player for Borussia, lost a close match to Felix Lebrun, preventing Borussia's immediate qualification for the Final Four. Borussia manager Andreas Preuß described the victory as a deserved one, highlighting the team's performance.
Borussia's head coach Danny Heister had his doubts about Alexis Lebrun's fitness during the match, suspecting that he might have been injured. Despite the Lebrun brothers' formidable presence, Montpellier were unable to prevent Borussia's progression to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, Borussia will face KS Dartom Bogoria Grodzisk Mazowiecki from Poland. The opponent in the other semi-final is 1. FC Saarbrücken TT and KS Global Pharma Orlicz 1924 Suchedniow, both from Poland.
The European Champions League Final Four promises to be an exciting tournament, and Borussia will be aiming to continue their impressive form and secure a place in the final.
