Box Office Earnings for Second Day of Param Sundari: Movie starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor approaches 150-million rupee threshold

In theatres since Friday, August 29, Param Sundari, produced under Dinesh Vijan's banner Maddock Films, has been making waves. The movie, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles, has been a topic of discussion, not just for its storyline, but also for the controversies it faced before its release.

The movie, which follows fun and chaos when Param (Sidharth Malhotra), a Punjabi munda from Delhi, falls in love with Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor), a girl from Kerala, collected over ₹13 crore in its first two days of release on August 30. However, it seems the controversies may have impacted its performance, as Delhi-NCR had the highest number of shows but witnessed only a 14.50% occupancy.

The opening collection of Param Sundari was higher than Shahid Kapoor's Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, as per film trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Despite this, the total 2-day collection stands at ₹13.66 crore, with the movie expected to reach a total of ₹15 crore by tonight.

The occupancy rates varied across different cities and show times. Morning shows had a 9.67% occupancy rate, afternoon shows an 18.03%, and evening shows a 19.70%. Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad had the highest occupancy for Param Sundari.

However, the movie has been under scrutiny for various reasons, including accusations of misrepresenting Kerala and Malayalam culture, mocking Janhvi Kapoor's accent and character as inauthentic, using stereotypes like jasmine flowers and Mohiniyattam dances, plagiarizing a Pakistani track, and hurting Christian sentiments over a romantic scene shot in a church.

A video by singer Pavithra Menon questioning the casting of Param Sundari was removed by Instagram after the makers filed a copyright complaint. Despite these challenges, Param Sundari managed an overall 15.80% Hindi Occupancy on Saturday.

The movie also features Sanjay Kapoor, Inayat Verma, and Manjot Singh in key roles, with Tushar Jalota of "Dasvi" fame directing the film. As the dust settles, it will be interesting to see how Param Sundari performs in the coming days.
