Tony Bellew Claims WBC Cruiserweight World Title with Dramatic Third-Round Knockout

Tony Bellew made history on May 29, 2016, as he claimed the vacant WBC cruiserweight world title with a thrilling third-round knockout against Ilunga Makabu at Everton's Goodison Park football stadium in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

The fight started with Bellew in control during the first round, but a sudden turn of events saw him knocked down by a straight left hand from Makabu. Despite the knockdown, Bellew appeared unharmed as the round ended, and he got up with determination, telling Sky Sports later that "that's what I do."

In the second round, Bellew looked tentative, but he started to open up his shots in the third round, landing a devastating left-hand shot that rendered Makabu unconscious before he hit the canvas. The referee, Mark Lyson, quickly stepped in to stop the fight, securing Bellew's victory.

The supporting judges, Glenn Feldman, Tim Cheatham, and Dave Moretti, all agreed with the referee's decision, giving Bellew the win. Bellew's victory marked his third attempt at winning a world title, making it a sweet success after previously failing to win light-heavyweight world titles.

Before the fight, Bellew expressed his emotions, stating that he cried in the dressing room before stepping into the ring. After the fight, he compared himself to Everton football club, stating that "nothing was going to stop [him] tonight."

Tony Bellew has had an impressive career in boxing, and his role in the 2015 boxing movie "Creed" further cemented his status as a formidable force in the ring. His victory against Makabu will undoubtedly go down in boxing history as one of his most dramatic and memorable fights.
