BPOL-HH: Airport Arrest at Hamburg: Driving Unlicensed & Fleeing Accident Scene Results in Detention by Federal Police
A 38-year-old Spanish national was arrested at Hamburg Airport on Tuesday, following a border police exit control around 3:30 PM. The individual was attempting to board a flight bound for London Stansted.
According to the Federal Police Inspectorate Airport Hamburg, the traveler was wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Mönchengladbach since mid-May 2025. The charges against the individual were deliberate driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident.
Upon being detained, the traveler was unable to pay the imposed fine of 90 daily rates of 40 euros each, totaling 3,724.50 euros. As an alternative to the fine, 90 days of imprisonment were ordered.
Marcus Henschel, the head of the Federal Police Inspection at Hamburg Airport, will be responsible for investigating the case further. The traveler was taken to the Holstenglacis detention center.
