Broken County Police Participate in European Road Policing Operation Speed

In a bid to combat and prevent accidents, the Circular Police Authority Borken has been conducting speed checks at 16 locations in the district of Borken. The recent operations have resulted in several instances of speeding, with drivers exceeding the maximum permitted speed limits.

One of the most notable cases occurred on the L 582 in Schöppingen, where a car was caught speeding at an alarming 113 km/h, exceeding the maximum permitted speed by a significant 43 km/h. This led to a driving ban for the offending driver, along with 110 other drivers who were also caught speeding.

Apart from Schöppingen, there were particularly serious excesses in Ahaus, Gronau, and Bocholt. In Ahaus, a vehicle was caught going 92 km/h on a street with a maximum speed limit of 50 km/h, and in Bocholt, a vehicle was caught going 84 km/h on the Dinxperloer Street, where the maximum speed limit is also 50 km/h. In Gronau, a vehicle was caught going 52 km/h on a street with a maximum speed limit of 30 km/h.

These incidents resulted in 110 administrative offence proceedings, and 500 warning fines were issued. In total, 3327 vehicles were checked, resulting in 609 drivers being too fast.

Excessive speed and reckless driving are among the main causes of accidents in the district of Borken. The traffic service plans to continue its measurements in the following week to further combat and prevent such incidents.
