Budget-friendly short-term stays in vacation rentals for families during summer breaks

As the summer vacation season approaches, many European regions are offering affordable last-minute bookings for vacation homes. Our German-language service and news portal, which provides information on living and working abroad, reports this trend.

In Germany, vacation home providers are observing an increasing number of individual adjustments to cater to the needs of families. One-third of hosts in Germany expect an increase in spontaneous bookings for the summer months of 2025, with families ranking second behind couples as the most important guest group. Despite high demand, accommodations remain available in some regions, such as the Eifel and the Wurster North Sea coast, where around 20% of capacities are still free in July. The average overnight price for a vacation home in Germany during July is 151 euros, with affordable regions including the Bavarian Forest (110 €), Dithmarschen (135 €), and the Lüneburg Heath (123 €).

Across the border, France offers a family-friendly price level at an average of 149 euros per night, with Brittany being particularly affordable at an average of 118 euros. The majority of vacation home providers in France consider families with children to be the most important guest group for the summer season of 2025. In contrast, there is no specific information in the search results about the majority of vacation home providers in Italy targeting families with children as the main target group for summer holidays 2025. However, Italy still offers affordable options, with an average price of 180 euros for a vacation home, and regions like Lecce (162 €), Brindisi (189 €), and Trapani (155 €) offering significantly cheaper alternatives.

Spain is another popular destination, with the national average at 188 euros. Regions like Gran Canaria (129 €) and parts of Valencia (199 €), Cádiz (204 €), and Girona (219 €) stand out positively. In Spain, families rank as the most important guest group for the summer season of 2025, with 54 percent of providers considering them as such.

Poland remains one of the most cost-effective alternatives with an average of 139 euros per night.

The popularity of individual destinations is based on search queries on the website www.holidu.de for the mentioned travel period. On Mallorca, the average in July is 371 euros, with the east coast being relatively affordable at an average of 322 euros.

Vacation home providers in Germany, France, Italy, and Spain are observing a clear trend towards last-minute bookings. This trend is likely to continue as we move closer to the summer season, making it an ideal time for those looking for a spontaneous getaway to book their vacation homes.
