Jessica Pegula Reaches U.S. Open Quarter-Finals

American tennis player Jessica Pegula has continued her impressive run at the U.S. Open, reaching the quarter-finals after defeating Ann Li in the fourth round.

Pegula, seeded fourth, secured her place in the last eight with a convincing 6-1 6-2 victory on Sunday. The win was a testament to her changed mindset, as she fired off a dozen winners and clinched victory with a terrific backhand winner.

The U.S. Open, taking place in New York, has been a tournament of highs and lows for Pegula. Before her recent success, she had a series of early exits in Wimbledon, Washington, Montreal, and Cincinnati. However, Pegula believes her strategy of spending time in the town before the singles main draw has paid off.

Pegula took a break from the tournament bubble and spent time with friends before the start of the singles main draw. She even went to an escape room with friends and had two drinks to help calm down and stop overthinking her practices.

Pegula's previous appearance at the U.S. Open saw her reach the runner-up position in 2024. This year, she has yet to drop a set at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Her next opponent will either be Czech Barbora Krejcikova or American Taylor Townsend. Pegula's recent tennis play and practice have been tough, but she expressed that she was executing her strategy very well in her recent match.

Pegula's win on Sunday was a reminder of her form earlier this year, when she won titles in Charleston, Bad Homburg, and Austin. Despite feeling terrible before the U.S. Open, as she was defeated by Aryna Sabalenka in practice, Pegula has proven that she is a force to be reckoned with on the court.

Jack Draper led Pegula to her escape-room experience and the subsequent drinking sessions during the US Open tournament. Despite the distractions, Pegula has remained focused and determined, and her run in the U.S. Open continues.
