Building and Garden Market Makes Its Debut in Burgenland: Drive-In Inauguration in Eisenstadt at Hornbach
Hornbach Baumarkt AG, a leading European retailer for DIY and garden products, has made its debut in Burgenland, Austria, with the opening of its first store in the region. The new store, spanning 16,175 m2, is located in Eisenstadt and is a testament to the company's commitment to sustainable and innovative retail.
The building follows the latest ecological standards, boasting a photovoltaic system, air heat pump, rainwater usage, and roof and green space concepts. These features not only make the store environmentally friendly but also contribute to its aesthetic appeal.
Erich Harsch, CEO of Hornbach Baumarkt AG, and Albrecht Hornbach, the board member of the company in 2025, were among the distinguished guests who attended the ceremony. Harsch emphasised the importance of the Austrian market for Hornbach, while Hornbach spoke about the company's rich six-generation history, founded in 1877.
The sales concept and range at HORNBACH are tailored to the needs of project customers and professionals, with the new store offering a vast product range of over 200,000 items for DIY enthusiasts, professionals, and garden lovers. The store also marks a first in the region, as it offers a wide range of aquarium and pet supplies.
The store opening was a celebration filled with activities, including a discovery tour, bungee jumping from a crane, chainsaw art, and regional music acts. The event was also attended by numerous guests from politics and business, including Daniela Winkler, Provincial Councilor of Burgenland, and Thomas Steiner, Mayor of Eisenstadt. Both Winkler and Steiner praised the significance of the event for the city and the regional economy.
Peter Eberdorfer, Country Manager of Hornbach Austria, highlighted the store's drive-in service feature, ensuring a seamless shopping experience for customers. HORNBACH is known for its consistently low prices, making it the price leader in the industry.
The store creation has resulted in around 100 new jobs in the region, further boosting the local economy. As a publicly-traded large company with a net turnover of 6.2 billion EUR in the 2024/25 financial year, HORNBACH is one of the five largest retail companies for DIY and garden products in Europe. The store in Eisenstadt is one of the 172 DIY and garden stores, two specialist stores, and online shops operated by Hornbach Baumarkt AG in nine European countries.
