The Berlin Animal Shelter has commenced a significant renovation project on July 30, 2025, aimed at providing a more comfortable and conducive environment for sick dogs. The extensive makeover, entirely funded by donations, is expected to cost approximately 1.5 million euros.

The renovated dog clinic will see a reduction in the number of accommodations, from 64 to 40, ensuring each dog has more space. This reduced density will allow for improved care and recovery for the animals. The renovation also includes expanding and modernising the existing dog clinic, with new runs tailored to the needs of sick animals and a new dog bath installed.

The outdoor area will be transformed into a 340 square meter space, complete with trees, sun protection, resting places, and a tunnel. Acoustic ceilings will be installed to reduce noise levels, and the area will be designed to allow targeted exercise without disturbing other animals. New muzzle systems will also be implemented for improved safety training.

Eva Rönspieß, chairwoman of the animal protection association, emphasises the responsibility that comes with acquiring a pet. "It's crucial to remember that owning an animal is a lifelong commitment, and we have a responsibility to ensure their well-being," she says.

The renovation is an important step in helping the dogs living in the shelter, many of which show health issues or have been kept in poor conditions. The team at the shelter aims to stabilise the health of the dogs and find them new homes. The renovated dog clinic will offer sick dogs protected retreats, more exercise, and structured walks, all contributing to their recovery and rehabilitation.

At present, there is no information available about the specific campaign or location where donations for the construction project were collected. However, the commitment and generosity of the donors are evident in the transformation taking place at the Berlin Animal Shelter.

This renovation project is a testament to the dedication of the Berlin Animal Shelter team and the animal protection association in ensuring the best possible care for the dogs in their charge. The renovated dog clinic is set to open its doors in the coming months, offering a brighter future for the dogs at the shelter.
