In the quiet town of Weilerswist, a shocking incident unfolded on Friday, August 15th. The fire investigators of the Euskirchen police have launched an investigation into an attempted arson that took place at Deutscher Platz.

The scene of the fire was a pile of waste, approximately 10 cubic meters, located in front of an empty store. The heat from the blaze was intense enough to shatter several window panes in the vicinity.

The building affected by the smoke was a complex housing multiple apartments and retail stores. Regrettably, one of the residents, an 85-year-old individual, was injured due to smoke inhalation. Thankfully, emergency services were promptly on the scene, and the resident was treated and later discharged.

The identities of the perpetrators remain unknown at this time. The fire was deliberately set, yet the motive behind this act of arson is still under investigation.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services, smoke from the fire spread through the occupied building complex, causing additional concern and disruption. The property damage from the fire is estimated to be in the low five-figure range in euros.

Authorities have secured the scene of the fire to ensure a thorough investigation can take place. The community of Weilerswist is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the local police.

As the investigation continues, the town of Weilerswist stands united, hoping for a swift resolution to this concerning incident.
