Building of wind energy generators
In an ambitious move towards sustainable energy, the municipality of Bruggen is set to significantly increase its renewable energy production. The project, focused on benefiting the municipality and its citizens, includes the construction of three wind turbines and an additional photovoltaic facility.
The wind turbines, to be built and operated by the local utilities in the Happelter Heath, are expected to generate approximately 46 million kWh per year. This is roughly two and a half times the amount of electricity needed for private households in the municipality. An additional planned photovoltaic facility is expected to generate about five million kWh, further boosting the municipality's renewable energy output.
The energy transition project is subject to all necessary legal checks. Intensive negotiations were necessary before the required land securing could be successfully completed for the construction of the three wind turbines. Provided that all legal checks are met, the first "Bruggen power" is expected to flow through the lines in about 2.5 years.
The council and the supervisory board have been active participants in the energy transition, regardless of party affiliation. This strategic decision to involve the municipality in renewable energy production is aimed at creating significant value for the municipality and its citizens. To maximize value creation, the municipality decided to actively involve itself in the project.
A significant portion of the expected profits from the wind turbines will benefit all citizens of the town of Bruggen through participation models yet to be decided. The exact details of these models are still under discussion, but the goal is clear: to ensure that the benefits of the energy transition project are shared among all residents.
The energy transition project is aimed at creating value on the dynamic energy market. By actively participating in renewable energy production, Bruggen is positioning itself as a key player in the energy transition, not just a consumer. This move aligns with the council's commitment to the energy transition, regardless of political affiliations.
The municipality of Bruggen cannot evade its legal obligation to provide land for renewable energies. By embracing this obligation and actively engaging in the energy transition, Bruggen is demonstrating its commitment to a sustainable future, both for its citizens and for the planet.
As the project progresses, the municipality of Bruggen looks forward to reaping the benefits of its renewable energy investments, while contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for all. The municipal electricity feed-in, including the wind and photovoltaic facilities, would increase to approximately 50 million kWh, marking a significant step forward in Bruggen's energy transition journey.
