Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen announces Kasper Hjulmand as their new manager following the dismissal of Ten Hag.

Bayer Leverkusen have announced the appointment of Kasper Hjulmand as their new manager, following the departure of Erik ten Hag. The Danish coach has signed a contract that runs until 2027.

Hjulmand expressed delight at his new role, describing it as a career-defining opportunity. He takes charge of his first game at home to Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday. Following this fixture, Leverkusen will face their Champions League opponents, Danish champions Copenhagen.

The appointment is poignant for Hjulmand, as he was previously the boss of the Denmark national team. He guided Denmark to the Euro 2020 semi-finals and the last 16 of Euro 2024.

Rolfes, the sporting director of Bayer Leverkusen, admitted that the club made an error in bringing in Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed after just two games into the Bundesliga season. Hjulmand, on the other hand, is tasked with implementing a bold style of play, as confirmed by the club.

Several high-profile candidates were linked to the Bayer Leverkusen manager post, including Xavi Hernandez, Ange Postecoglou, and Raul. However, it was Hjulmand who was ultimately chosen.

Hjulmand's career in football management began in 2011 when he won the Danish league title with FC Nordsjaelland. He also managed Mainz in the Bundesliga during the 2014-15 season.

Notably, Xabi Alonso led Bayer Leverkusen to an unbeaten domestic double last season before leaving for Real Madrid in the summer.

It's worth mentioning that no new facts about Victor Boniface or AC Milan were mentioned in this paragraph.

Before his departure, Hjulmand resigned as Denmark coach in July 2024. Despite this, he remains a highly respected figure in Danish football.

As Leverkusen's new manager, Hjulmand will aim to build on the success of Alonso's tenure and bring more trophies to the club. His first challenge will be against Eintracht Frankfurt this Friday.
