Business leaders from Alexandria to confer with lawmakers at the annual legislative gathering
It's Monday, Aug. 25, the 237th day of 2025, and the City of Alexandria has a quiet day ahead with no public meetings or events scheduled. However, the highlight of the week is approaching as the Chamber ALX prepares to host its 2025 Legislative Reception on Thursday, Sept. 4.
This event, taking place at The Alexandrian Hotel, promises to be a significant gathering for the business community. The reception provides a rare opportunity for direct dialogue between local businesses and policymakers.
Confirmed appearances include State Sen. Adam Ebbin, Majority Leader Delegate Charniele Herring, Delegate Elizabeth Bennett-Parker, Delegate Alfonso Lopez, Mayor Alyia Gaskins, Councilwoman Jacinta Greene, and Councilman Kirk McPike.
The reception will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and tickets are priced at $55 for Chamber members and $70 for prospective members.
Meanwhile, Alexandria City Public Schools has received an award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for its federally funded school nutrition program. The recognition is a testament to the school's commitment to providing quality meals to its students.
Elsewhere in Alexandria, today's events are varied and vibrant. Alexandria Summer Restaurant Week, Senior Bingo, Baby Time, English Language Learning (ELL) and ELL 2 Workshop - Intermediate Conversation, Adults and Dragons, Joggers & Lagers, Yoga At The Library - with Human Kind Yoga Collective, and numerous live music and entertainment options are on the agenda.
On Saturday, thousands of visitors flocked to Oronoco Bay Park for the Around the World Cultural Food Festival, which drew thousands to the Alexandria waterfront.
Lastly, a reminder for those using Mt. Vernon Avenue Bridge across Four Mile Run. Starting today, the median of the bridge will be demolished, reducing traffic from four lanes to two lanes for approximately two weeks.
As for the weather, it's sunny today with a high near 84 degrees, and it will be mostly clear tonight with a low around 62 degrees.
