BusTickets Purchase Without Cash Begins - TestRun in Regensburg Involves Twelve Buses
In a significant step towards modernisation, the Rhine-Neckar Verkehr (RVV) network has announced the commencement of a digital ticketing system trial starting from September 3.
During the trial period, twelve buses will be equipped with cashless ticket terminals. Passengers can still use cash to buy tickets in these buses, as well as at regional buses, advance sales points, ticket machines at central stops, and at the RVV customer center on Hemauerstraße.
The RVV app offers a convenient solution for purchasing tickets for the entire RVV network, including train tickets. Passengers can select and pay for tickets on the bus using credit/debit cards or mobile payment options like Google/Apple Pay.
For those who prefer not to pay digitally, the RVV will soon offer a prepaid card, available at advance sales points and the RVV customer center.
The digital ticketing system aims to streamline the boarding process, allowing drivers to focus more on passenger boarding and alighting, potentially reducing stop times. Stickers on the entrance doors of these buses inform passengers that tickets can only be bought cashless.
The cost of a single ticket in price zone 1 is €3.60 when bought from the driver, €3.20 in advance, and €2.88 digitally. For a short distance fare (up to three stops), the digital ticket costs only €1.44.
Ticket information, including purchases and completed journeys, can be viewed at rvv.de/bargeldlos. The processes and functionality of the digital ticket devices and the new on-board computer system will be continuously tested and evaluated during the trial.
By late autumn, all of Stadtwerk Mobilität's buses will be equipped with the new cashless ticket terminals. With around 30 advance sales points in the city area for purchasing RVV tickets, convenience is guaranteed for passengers.
During a ticket inspection, passengers can hold their payment device to the controller's reading device. The RVV encourages passengers to familiarise themselves with the new system to ensure a smooth transition.
This digital ticketing system trial marks an exciting step forward for the RVV network, aiming to provide a more efficient and modern travel experience for its passengers. Stay tuned for updates on the trial's progress and the full rollout of the digital ticketing system.
