Butterfield sees new leadership changes in top positions
Butterfield, the international bank and wealth management group, has announced several key changes to its senior leadership team.
Michael Schrum, who previously served as Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from 2015 to 2022, has been reappointed to the role. Schrum oversaw Butterfield's US Initial Public Offering (IPO) and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) listing during his previous tenure. In addition to his role as CFO, Schrum will continue to serve on Butterfield's Executive Committee and Board of Directors, and will retain responsibility for corporate development and group strategy.
Meanwhile, Craig Bridgewater is stepping down as Group CFO. Bridgewater's departure follows a successful tenure at Butterfield, during which he played a key role in the bank's growth and development. Michael Collins, Chairman and CEO of Butterfield, expressed his gratitude to Craig and Simon for their contributions to the bank.
Bri Hidalgo has been appointed as Group Chief Risk Officer, replacing Bridgewater. Hidalgo brings over 25 years of international banking experience, most recently serving as Group Head of Compliance and Operational Risk at Butterfield. Prior to joining Butterfield, Hidalgo spent 14 years with Wells Fargo Bank in compliance and risk management roles, most notably serving as Chief Risk Officer for Wealth Management.
In addition to her new role as Group Chief Risk Officer, Hidalgo will also serve as Interim General Counsel, replacing Meredith Steinhaus who has been named Interim General Counsel. Steinhaus has served as Corporate Secretary for Butterfield since 2018 and has extensive legal experience. Prior to joining Butterfield, she served in senior legal roles at a NASDAQ-listed media company and started her law career in New York and London with LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene and MacRae. Steinhaus received her law degree from Cornell Law School in 2002.
Michael Collins is pleased that internal talent is being utilized for the important roles of Group Chief Risk Officer and Interim General Counsel. Collins mentioned Michael, Bri, and Meredith as well-known Butterfield executives who understand the markets in which the bank operates.
Butterfield is confident that these changes will position the bank for continued success in the years ahead.
