On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the project "My Childhood and Youth in Gütersloh - Eyewitnesses Tell" will premiere a series of short films at Bambi-Kino, located at Bogenstraße 3. This unique project aims to record, preserve, and make publicly accessible personal stories from the war and post-war generation of Gütersloh.

The method of "Oral History" (spoken history) is central to the project, with the films based on interviews with 23 eyewitnesses from the war and post-war generation in Gütersloh. These individuals, born between 1922 and 1950, share their unfiltered and authentic voices, offering a vivid picture of past everyday realities that goes beyond written sources.

The films focus on the experiences of children and young people in Gütersloh during National Socialism, the bombing war, liberation, and the years of rebuilding. Through these personal conversations, the project creates a multifaceted kaleidoscope of individual experiences, offering new perspectives for urban historical research.

Prior registration is required for the event, which can be done via the cultural portal at www.stadt.gt/zeitzeuginnen-erzaehlen. Admission to the event is free, and attendees will have the opportunity to meet the project leaders Lena Jeckel, Julia Kuklik, and Dr. Franz Jungbluth.

The premiere will take place on September 6, 2025, at 11 am at Bambi-Kino. This event offers an emotional journey through the history of the city, allowing listeners to hear firsthand accounts from those who experienced formative years. A brochure with further information will be available at the event.

Join us on September 6 for a unique opportunity to delve into the history of Gütersloh through the eyes of its residents. Let the stories of the 23 eyewitnesses transport you to a bygone era and provide a deeper understanding of the city's past. Don't miss this chance to engage with history in a way that is both personal and powerful.
