Cabinet Head Election: SPD's Meyer Against CDU's Kühn

In the upcoming election for Krefeld, two candidates are vying for the city's leadership: Timo Kühn and Frank Meyer. Both have presented their visions for the city's future, focusing on key issues such as attracting visitors, improving infrastructure, and addressing budget concerns.

Timo Kühn, a local politician, promises to create a pleasant atmosphere in the city centre to attract visitors from the strong suburbs. He also emphasises the importance of economically strong, safe, clean Krefeld, with reasonable schools and sports facilities, and a good atmosphere.

On the other hand, Frank Meyer, representing the Social Democratic Party (SPD), believes that the perception of infrastructure largely controls the overall perception of the city. He promises to continue being highly engaged for Krefeld with great reliability. Meyer's solution approach for consolidating the municipal budget involves saving money and examining where the administration can save itself.

One contentious issue is the Seidenweberhaus, a city-owned building. The council has passed a resolution to separate it from the city and build the boiler house as an event hall. The cost of turning back this decision would be extremely high, making it a difficult issue to reconsider. The Seidenweberhaus hinders modern redesign of the theater square and would require extensive renovation.

Another issue that has been a persistent problem for citizens is the potholes in Krefeld. To address this, Kühn suggests considering the use of AI-supported systems to accelerate street surveys and improve road maintenance.

The city centre of Krefeld had 400,000 fewer visitors this year. The surf park project is currently awaiting the submission of a building application from the investor. Improving the city centre is crucial to attracting more visitors and boosting the local economy.

Private owners need trust to reinvest in the city centre. Both candidates agree that after a successful election, they will need to discuss budget policy guidelines with the factions that could form majorities.

The candidates have a history of getting along well and treating each other fairly. Kühn appreciates Meyer's commitment over the years. Meyer characterises Kühn as an engaged local politician.

However, the AFD, a political party, is considered a fascist party by Frank Meyer and is considered outside the democratic party spectrum. This ideological difference could potentially lead to disagreements and different approaches to solving the city's challenges.

Another important issue is the drug problem in Krefeld. Around 1,200 consumption acts take place at the drug help centre per month on average. Both candidates have yet to present detailed plans on how they intend to address this issue.

Progress has been made in terms of public order in the city centre of Krefeld. Despite the challenges, both candidates are committed to making Krefeld a better place for its citizens. The election will decide which candidate will lead Krefeld into the future.
