California Aquarium Collapse Depicted in Viral Video Revealed as Artificial Intelligence Creation

In the digital age, misinformation can spread faster than the truth. A recent viral video claiming to show a catastrophic aquarium collapse in California has been making waves on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube. However, a closer look at the video and various pieces of evidence suggest that it is, in fact, a deepfake or AI-generated content.

On 04 August 2025, the video was archived and uploaded on TikTok by the user '@the.worldai', who labels it as "AI-generated." The video, which does not depict a real incident in California, contains visual inconsistencies typical of such content. For instance, the body of a woman in a blue T-shirt, who appears to disappear into the water after the aquarium collapses, is an anomaly found in AI-generated or deepfake videos.

The viral video may have been inspired by a real incident that occurred at the 'AquaDom' in Berlin in December 2022, where the aquarium suddenly burst, causing extensive flooding. However, no human fatalities were reported. If such an incident had occurred, it would have been reported by the media.

AI content detection tools have flagged the viral video as AI-generated. Hive, an AI content detection tool, indicated a 97.6% likelihood that the video was AI-generated. Similarly, YouTube labeled the same video, uploaded by '@the.worldai' on 04 August 2025, with a disclaimer stating that the visuals were digitally generated.

It's worth noting that the profile of the TikTok and YouTube user '@the.worldai' shares AI-generated content, and similar videos can be found on the channel. The user 'viral_reels_aus', another reel creator known for flood and crash videos, is also believed to be involved in the creation and distribution of the viral video.

In conclusion, the viral claim that a huge aquarium collapse in California killed 50 people is false. The video, which has been circulating on social media platforms, is AI-generated and does not depict a real incident in California. It's essential to verify information before sharing it, especially when it comes to sensitive and potentially distressing content like this.
