California Prepares for an Impressive Mountain Bike Destination, Spanning Miles of Thrilling Paths
Santa Clarita, located approximately 30 miles north of Los Angeles, could soon find itself on a list of budget-friendly Southern California destinations for travellers seeking an affordable escape.
The city's close proximity to Los Angeles, coupled with its lower accommodation costs, makes it an attractive stopover for road-trippers. Many hotels in the area offer rooms for under $100 per night, providing a more affordable alternative to the city's more expensive counterparts.
But Santa Clarita isn't just about savings. It's also a haven for biking enthusiasts, with over 100 miles of designated bike routes crisscrossing the city. One of the most exciting developments is the upcoming Haskell Canyon Bike Park, set to open in December 2025.
This expansive park, covering 720 acres, will feature 15 miles of single track, berms, and jumps, catering to a wide range of experience levels. The park's trails will penetrate quiet backcountry, offering a mounted, 10-mile-per-hour hiking experience far from multi-lane streets and flashy housing developments.
The total cost of developing Haskell Canyon Bike Park is $7.4 million, and admission will be free. For those who don't own a bike, there are at least four places to rent bikes in the Santa Clarita metro area.
For cross-country riders, Haskell Canyon Bike Park will be a dream come true. The park's trails will be approximately 30 times longer than the current park, offering a challenging and exhilarating ride.
But the biking scene in Santa Clarita doesn't stop there. The city already has a Bike Park in the eastern suburb of Honby, with a total of 800 yards of track, primarily designed for BMXers.
Moreover, the first leg of a new "Pacific Coast Trail for bikes" has opened in Washington State, and when completed, will cut through California, making Santa Clarita easily accessible for bikers embarking on this epic journey.
The Antelope Valley Line can get visitors close to Santa Clarita in under an hour, with a designated bike car available for those who prefer a more active mode of transport. Route 5 runs right into Santa Clarita on the way to LA, making it a convenient stopover for road-trippers.
Santa Clarita's terrain is a mix of sun-baked hills and scraggly vegetation, providing a unique and picturesque backdrop for biking adventures. Whether you're a seasoned biker or a beginner, Santa Clarita offers a biking experience that is hard to beat.
So, if you're planning your next trip, consider adding Santa Clarita to your list. With its budget-friendly accommodations, growing biking scene, and picturesque landscapes, it's a destination that's sure to leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.
