Canadian short track speed skating competitions concluded with victories for Sarault in the women's division and Dandjinou in the men's division, earning them respective title wins.
Montreal, August 31, 2025 — The 2025 Canadian Short Track Speed Skating Championships concluded with thrilling performances from William Dandjinou and Courtney Sarault, who clinched the men's and women's national titles, respectively.
In the men's competition, Dandjinou emerged victorious, securing the national title with a score of 28,000 points. His closest competitor, teammate Felix Roussel, finished second with 27,000 points. Dandjinou's win came after a nail-biting 1500-meter final, where he took the lead but lost an edge during a last-minute pass attempt, causing him and Roussel to crash into the protective mats. Despite the mishap, Dandjinou managed to hold on to the win, crossing the finish line in 2:16.603.
Dandjinou also secured the 1500-meter title, but his performance left him feeling that there is much room for improvement. "I feel good, despite having a difficult past two weekends and not performing as I wanted to in the competition," he said.
In the 500-meter event, Maxime Laoun clinched the gold medal with a time of 41.049 seconds, narrowly edging out Dandjinou who finished second with 41.666 seconds. Mathieu Pelletier took the third spot with a time of 41.755 seconds.
On the women's side, Sarault dominated the competition, earning a total of nine gold medals, extending her gold-medal streak. She won the 500-meter event with a time of 42.988 seconds and the 1500-meter event with a time of 2:39.528 seconds. Sarault, a native of Moncton, also won the national title with a significant lead over her competitors.
In the 3000-meter event, Sarault secured a significant lead over second-place competitor, Kim Boutin, scoring 30,000 points. No relevant information about the female gold medalists for the 1,500-meter and 500-meter distances for this year's competition was found in the search results.
