A traffic accident occurred in Reinickendorf yesterday afternoon at the intersection of Eichborndamm, Waldstraße, and Wittestraße. The incident involved a Mercedes and a VW, resulting in injuries for four individuals.
According to the initial investigation, the Mercedes was coming from Wittestraße, while the VW was approaching from Eichborndamm. The light was reportedly green for the Mercedes and red for the VW at the time of the collision.
The 44-year-old driver of the VW stated that his brake pedal had failed, leading to the accident. The police are currently investigating this claim, as well as whether traffic regulations were followed by either driver at the time of the accident.
The 46-year-old passenger in the Mercedes and the VW driver both suffered head injuries. The Mercedes driver and the 46-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment, while the 44-year-old driver was taken for further treatment.
The two teenage occupants of the VW were treated at the scene and later released. Both vehicles were no longer roadworthy after the accident and were towed away from the accident site.
The Fachkommission (expert commission) from Police Directorate 1 has taken over the investigation of the traffic accident. The police are also investigating the cause of the brake failure in the VW.
The intersection was closed for accident investigation until 6:45 p.m., affecting the 221 bus line. However, the bus line resumed its normal route after the investigation was completed.
No charges have been filed as of the time of the report. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
