Car accident results in severe injuries for two individuals due to a direct frontal impact
In a shocking turn of events, a severe accident occurred on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, on the stretch between Knetzgau and Haßfurt on state road 2276 in the Hassberge district. The incident, which took place at approximately 10:15 am, was reported by News5 and has since been the focus of an extensive investigation by the Haßfurt police.
The Honda driver, aged 59, was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition. The Mercedes driver, also 57 years old, was taken to a clinic. Initial findings suggest that the Honda veered into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons, leading to a head-on collision with an oncoming Mercedes.
Both vehicles involved in the accident, the Honda and the Mercedes, were severely damaged and had to be towed away. The total damage from the accident is estimated to be approximately 45,000 euros.
The Haßfurt police, along with volunteer fire departments from Eschenau, Haßfurt, Knetzgau, Hainert, and Westheim, were involved in the operation at the accident site. An expert has been commissioned by the public prosecutor's office to reconstruct the accident.
The police have initiated investigations into the cause of the accident, but the Honda driver, who has not been publicly identified, remains the focus of their inquiries. The 57-year-old woman involved in the accident on Staatsweg 2276 near Knetzgau was also seriously injured.
A rescue helicopter was deployed to the scene of the accident, underscoring the gravity of the situation. The accident was reported by News5 on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 10:15 am. The Haßfurt police are continuing their investigations into the exact course of the accident.
