Car blaze on the highway's thoroughfare
The A40 highway near Mülheim an der Ruhr was the site of a vehicle fire on Sunday afternoon at around 4:30 PM. The Mülheim an der Ruhr Fire Department was called to the scene, and upon arrival, they found a conventionally powered vehicle engulfed in flames.
The burning car was extinguished using water and a light foam, and the operation, which involved ten firefighters, took approximately 45 minutes. Fortunately, no persons were injured during the incident.
The fire was caused by the metal scrap cargo of a truck igniting shortly before the Mülheim-Heißen junction, leading to the blaze. The burning vehicle was confirmed just before the Mülheim-Winkhausen exit heading towards Essen.
Following the fire department's operation, the highway police took over the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. The highway had to be temporarily fully closed for this purpose.
