Car crash occurred during police chase
In an unexpected turn of events, a high-speed police pursuit on the evening of August 21st concluded with a collision on the Westtangente towards Wiehl in the Oberbergischer Kreis.
The incident began on Dieringhauser Straße towards Vollmerhausen, where a Volkswagen Golf driver refused to stop for the police. The driver eventually halted his vehicle in the construction area of the L336 between Alperbrücke and Eichhardtstraße.
The Circles Police Department Oberbergischer Kreis, a law enforcement agency within the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, is handling the investigation. The fleeing driver was overtaken by police on Friedrichstaler Straße and collided with a traffic sign and a tree on a pedestrian crossing.
The driver, a 50-year-old resident of Gummersbach, surrendered without resistance following the collision. It was discovered that the driver did not have a valid driver's license.
The public prosecutor's office (Staatsanwaltschaft) has initiated a criminal investigation against the individual.
