Car fire on Danziger Straße/B8n in Kalkum following a traffic collision, causing roadblock for multiple hours
On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 15:17, a significant incident occurred on the B 8n between Kaiserswerth and Kalkum. A rear-end collision involving a car and a car-trailer combination brought traffic to a halt.
The accident involved a 61-year-old man from Dinslaken and a Dutchman. Unfortunately, the man from Dinslaken was unable to brake in time, leading to the collision. His VW was completely engulfed in flames following the impact. Thankfully, the Dutchman involved in the collision remained unharmed.
In the aftermath of the collision, one lane on the B 8n was closed, and incoming vehicles were diverted via the Niederrheinstraße. Police implemented a full closure in the direction of Duisburg for fire-fighting and recovery operations.
The 61-year-old from Dinslaken was taken to a hospital in Düsseldorf with minor injuries. Despite extensive searches, the name of the 49-year-old Dutch man involved in the accident remains undisclosed.
The driver of the car-trailer combination, who is also a Dutch national, was stationary at the time of the collision. The car was completely destroyed by fire following the incident.
Traffic resumed on the B 8n around 19:00, with one lane reopened in the evening following the accident. The incident caused significant disruption to the area's traffic flow, but the situation was eventually brought under control.
