Car Burnt Down on A8 in Upper Bavaria: A Major Traffic Disruption

A significant traffic disruption occurred on the A8 highway in Upper Bavaria on Friday, as a car burnt down almost completely, leaving only the chassis intact. According to the police, the incident caused a considerable traffic jam that extended as far as the Dachau/Bergkirchen interchange.

The incident began when the driver of a Volvo, aged 59, noticed unusual noises from his car before exiting at Sulzemoos in the Dachau district. Upon pulling over on the hard shoulder, he found small flames coming from the engine compartment. Despite a passing witness's attempt to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher, the fire gradually grew into a larger one, eventually engulfing the entire car.

The fire department was promptly called and successfully extinguished the fire. However, the car was destroyed, and the estimated damage from the car fire is in the five-figure range. After the car was towed away, the right lane and the hard shoulder were cleaned using a special device. For approximately two hours, only the left lane towards Stuttgart was open.

Thankfully, no information is provided about any injuries or casualties resulting from the incident. The cause of the car fire remains unknown. The police reported that several drivers attempted to drive through the emergency lane, adding to the traffic chaos.

The cleanup of the right lane and hard shoulder was completed after the car was towed away.
