Career hunt: Numerous avenues guide you to success

In the heart of Wuppertal, on September 18, the historic town hall will play host to a unique event - the Training Fair. Over 110 companies, schools, and initiatives will gather to present a diverse range of opportunities, from traditional apprenticeships to cutting-edge digital jobs.

The fair, organised by the Municipal Coordination of the City of Wuppertal in cooperation with Economic Development Wuppertal, the Federal Employment Agency Solingen-Wuppertal, and the Jobcenter Wuppertal, aims to provide a guide for young people, parents, and educators navigating the vast array of career opportunities.

Elke Stapff, a key figure from the Municipal Coordination of the City of Wuppertal (KoKo), emphasises the importance of listening to children's career aspirations. She believes that an apprenticeship is just as valuable as a university degree, and that if a career path does not fit, it is considered an important learning experience rather than a defeat.

Berit Uhlmann, another influential voice, stresses the importance of space and experiences for young people in career choice. She advises parents to actively accompany and advise their children, as they are often the most important advisors. Young people, she says, need space to make mistakes and gain experiences to find their true career paths.

Melanie Henke from Economic Development underscores the fact that careers today often do not follow a straight path. Trying out internships, part-time jobs, and taster days can help young people understand their career paths, and unconventional career choices can lead to the discovery of hidden talents in fashion, technology, or media.

The article, featured in the "YOLO" training magazine, reiterates that the role of parents in guiding their children's career choices is crucial. It encourages parents to listen to their children's career aspirations, even if they seem unconventional, and to support their children's decisions, knowing that the journey to a dream career may not be a linear one.

So, whether you're a young person seeking direction, a parent looking to guide your child, or an educator interested in the latest career trends, mark September 18 in your calendar and join the Training Fair at the Historical City Hall in Wuppertal. It could be the first step towards a rewarding career journey.
