Cars, fashion, and culture showcased at the globe's most trendy ice racing circuit
In the heart of the Austrian Alps, the unique blend of speed and style that is the Mille Miglia will make its return in 2025. But this year, the spotlight shone on a different event — the FAT International Ice Race.
Polestar, the electric performance car brand, made a significant mark at this year's race. The Electric Garage, a Polestar hub, transformed the race paddock with its high-tech racing simulators, bespoke racing helmet painting, and a futuristic look and feel.
Polestar showcased its Arctic Circle collection during the race, a series of vehicles equipped with specialized ice racing tyres and distinctive white and yellow coats. The centrepiece of the Electric Garage was an elevated Polestar 5, a four-door Grand Tourer that will become Polestar's most powerful car.
Sergio Marques, a Polestar ambassador, found his home in the reindeer and Northern Lights territory of Jokkmokk, Sweden, where the race took place. Meanwhile, Thed Bjork, with a history with Polestar, took to the ice in one of the Arctic Circle collection vehicles.
Shana Claessens, a racing driver, reflected on her experience driving a Polestar 4, drawing parallels between her driving and the company's ethos. She praised the balance of power and control that the vehicle offered, making it a thrilling ride on the icy tracks.
Creating a venue in the Austrian Alps was no easy task for Polestar's architects and designers. Markus Pillhofer, the architect responsible for the Electric Garage, saw the challenge as a unique opportunity and a source of inspiration for his team.
Dan Persson, Polestar's Strategic Creative Director, emphasized that the Electric Garage is about creating a movement and crafting engaging experiences that make Polestar memorable. He believes that the brand's racing culture, showcased at the FAT International Ice Race, is a testament to this commitment.
The event was not just about the racing action. It featured a range of activities, including helicopter rides, special VIP paddocks, and the Flying Bulls, a collection of historical aircraft. The real action, however, was trackside, where vehicles with four heavily spiked wheels raced around the ice.
The Arctic Circle collection vehicles were driven by none other than swimming superstar Sarah Sjöström and racing driver Thed Bjork. The Polestar 5, the star of the show, will be available to customers later this year.
As Polestar continues to push the boundaries of electric performance, its presence at the FAT International Ice Race was a clear demonstration of its commitment to creating unforgettable experiences and driving the future of racing.
