Uncovering the $120,000 Fine: Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto in Hot Water for Missed Red Flags

It's no joke, my friends. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is putting the heat on Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto, slapping them with a hefty $120,000 fine. So, what got them in this mess? Let's break it down.

Busted for a sneaky scheme, five individuals - two table game dealers among them - found themselves in hot water back in March 2024, after an investigation by the AGCO's Investigation and Enforcement Bureau (IEB). According to reports, these shady individuals had been colluding with casino patrons in a fraudulent scheme that racked up nearly $20,000 in illicit winnings in less than a week. Ouch, that's some serious cash!

Now, you might be wondering, how did this slip under the radar? The AGCO's review revealed that the casino's compliance and enforcement staff had dropped the ball, failing to notice this fishy scheme. To make matters worse, they also found that the staff had neglected to adhere to the proper table game auditing procedures.

AGCO's CEO, Karin Schnarr, had this to say:

Registered casino operators in Ontario have a responsibility to ensure that gaming remains fair and honest. This includes a responsibility to detect and prevent collusion and cheating. We'll continue to work tirelessly to uphold these standards and maintain the integrity of gaming throughout the province.

Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto, which opened its doors in June 2023 next to Woodbine Racetrack, has the option to appeal this hefty penalty to the independent Licence Appeals Tribunal (LAT).

But here's a fun fact for you: this isn't the first time the casino has faced penalty for skirting the rules. Back in September 2023, they were hit with an $80,000 fine for a separate incident involving a electronic craps dealer cheating scheme. Yikes!

Stay tuned to our Telegram channel for more updates on this unfolding story. Let's hope the casino can buckle down and get their act together! 😊
