Forest Fire in South Tyrol: Agency for Civil Protection Activates Crisis Center

A forest fire has broken out in the Vinschgau region, specifically above the municipalities of Latsch and Kastelbell, South Tyrol. The Agency for Civil Protection has established a crisis center to coordinate efforts in managing the current situation.

The crisis staff, under the responsibility of the civil protection office, has been actively communicating with on-site forces to ensure an effective response. This is not the first time the region has faced such a crisis; a large forest fire occurred in early March, resulting in eleven injuries and the evacuation of 59 residents from a nearby hamlet by helicopter.

Fire departments were on the scene for multiple days to combat the earlier forest fire, but the current extent and severity of the fire are yet to be determined. The crisis center was set up in response to the current fire, which shares the same general region as the one that occurred in March.

The potential spread of smoke from the current fire could affect areas such as Trento and North Tyrol. In light of this, the control centers in these regions have been informed and are prepared to take necessary measures.

The Agency for Civil Protection continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as more information becomes available. The safety and well-being of the community remain the top priority.
