Catastrophic train collision leaves numerous casualties in Egypt
In a tragic incident, a train derailment occurred on the route between Alexandria and Marsa Matruh, Egypt, leaving at least three people dead and over 50 injured. The Egyptian Ministry described the accident as a "tragic accident."
The derailment reportedly occurred due to a dip in the tracks, and two out of the seven carriages overturned, according to eyewitness accounts. Photos from the scene show the two overturned carriages in a ditch.
The province where this deadliest railway accident in Egypt since 2002 occurred is Marsa Matruh. Thirty ambulances were deployed to treat the injured and transport them to hospitals.
Egypt's railway network, spanning approximately 10,000 kilometers, has often been in a poor condition. Long-overdue repair work on the network has been delayed, and poor training of train personnel is sometimes cited as a cause of accidents.
It is worth noting that one of the worst train accidents in Egypt occurred in 2002, involving a fire on a train that resulted in over 360 fatalities.
This news is reported by dpa / EVN. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for urgent maintenance and improvements in Egypt's railway network to ensure the safety of its passengers.
