In the heart of Neuss, an unsettling incident has come to light. The local authorities are currently investigating a door-to-door sales scam that targeted an elderly gentleman in Dormagen on Wednesday around 10:30 AM.

According to the police, the suspect is described as approximately 1.80 meters tall, around 25 to 30 years old, with black hair and wearing a cap. He arrived in a two-tone car with an Italian license plate. The identity of the perpetrator is not publicly available at this time.

The scam involved the suspect offering jackets for sale, driving the senior to the bank, and the senior purchasing four leather jackets at a high price. However, it was later discovered that the jackets were of poor quality and sold at an exorbitant price.

The police are urging caution when dealing with door-to-door sales, as it is nearly impossible to enforce a right to withdraw if there is only a verbal contract and the seller cannot be further identified. They advise against letting strangers into your home, but instead, invite unknown people at a later time when a trusted person is present.

In a separate development, the Criminal Commissioner 12 in Neuss has taken over the investigation into the fraud. The police are asking anyone who can contribute to the clarification of the events to contact them at 02131 300-0.
