CDU condemns the ongoing debate about the Municipal Utility Company (MVZ) and alleges that the SPD is employing distraction tactics
In the heart of Solingen, a debate is brewing over the potential establishment of a Medical Care Center (MCC) in the old Kaufhof/P&C complex. The suggestion comes from the Solingen SPD faction, who believe that the location could be ideal for this purpose.
However, the CDU faction, led by Daniel Flemm, has expressed criticism against this decision. Flemm has stated that the CDU previously inquired about establishing an MCC in the former St. Lukas Clinic, but were told it was not possible.
The proposed MCC would require numerous insurance seats, each costing several hundred thousand euros per specialty. These seats, according to Flemm, would complement the existing structures (MCC urology, pediatrics, possibly gynecology) in line with the existing clinics on the SKS campus. However, Flemm has emphasized that these seats are currently not feasible, especially for cost reasons.
Flemm has also suggested that a new building at the Kaufhof/P&C location can make sense if it is integrated into the overall city center planning. He has emphasized that when planning for the Kaufhof/P&C area, the property relationships should remain in the long term in municipal hands.
On the other hand, Flemm has stated that an MCC in the old Kaufhof/P&C complex would not reach the number of square meters to be revitalized and is not a comprehensive concept for the city center. He did not mention the need for insurance seats in specific specialties for the MCC, as previously stated.
Meanwhile, Flemm has not mentioned the possibility of an MCC being built on the clinic campus on Gotenstraße, a location that has been suggested in the past. There is no publicly available information indicating a new MCC planned on the campus of the Solingen Clinic at Gotenstraße as a replacement for the proposed MCC in the old Kaufhof/P&C complex.
The CDU is ready for a debate regarding the entire city center, including a new security concept, a change in housing and social structure, and the consideration of the Clemens galleries in the planning. Flemm has criticized the public statements of his SPD faction colleague Iris Preuß-Buchholz for serving a political purchase decision to an owner who might use the city center objects as write-offs.
As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether the MCC will find a home in the old Kaufhof/P&C complex or if another location will be chosen. The existing specialized eye center is located at Gotenstraße 1 on the clinic campus, but details on a new MCC project or its relation to the MCC plan are not found in available sources.
