In the political landscape of Germany, a new election law for the Bundestag, effective from 2023, has brought about significant changes. This new law provides for a total of 630 members of parliament, a marked increase from the previous number.

Under this new system, voters are given two votes: a first vote and a second vote. The first vote determines which party will represent a constituency, while the second vote determines how many seats each party receives overall. This system, while ensuring representation for each constituency, potentially leads to some constituencies not being represented exactly according to their vote count.

The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), one of the major parties in the country, is another party with Lars Klingbeil as its leader. Securing jobs and addressing social issues are particularly important to the SPD. They believe in the importance of having a quick government formation, but they must seriously discuss many topics due to differences with the CDU.

The SPD has also expressed a desire for its members to vote on whether to form a government with the CDU. The CDU, known as the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, is a large party that exists in all federal states except Bavaria. In the Union (CDU and CSU), migration, economy, security in Europe, and changing voting rights are important topics.

The CSU, a German party known as the Christian Social Union, can only be voted for in the federal state of Bavaria. In the Bundestag election 2025, the Green Party has officially nominated Nyke Slawik as their candidate for the Leverkusen – Köln IV constituency.

It's worth noting that all other parties together have only 302 seats in the Bundestag. The Union (CDU and CSU) and SPD, however, have a majority with 328 seats, making them the dominant political forces in the newly elected Bundestag.

Social issues, such as justice, are particularly important to the SPD, while the CDU focuses on migration, economy, security in Europe, and changing voting rights. The SPD and CDU's differing agendas may lead to interesting discussions during the formation of the new government.

These changes in the German political landscape promise an exciting election season in 2025, as parties navigate the new election laws and present their agendas to the voters.
