In Wolfenbüttel, the CDU faction in the city council has expressed its opposition to the planning for a cycle expressway towards Braunschweig. The leader of the CDU faction, Marc Angerstein, has informed the mayor of their decision.

The CDU faction argues that the demand for a third cycle path is not present, likening the situation to building three kitchens in an apartment. They believe that it would be more beneficial to use budget funds for promoting cycling within the city area in the future.

The cycle expressway between Salzgitter, Wolfenbüttel, and Braunschweig is still in planning. However, the CDU faction does not consider it necessary and asserts that a third cycle path for the same number of users brings no additional benefit to the taxpayer.

Renouncing the third cycle path to Braunschweig could result in significant savings for Wolfenbüttel's budget, with savings expected to be in the high six-figure range. The CDU faction, however, has not specified alternative uses for the budget funds earmarked for the cycle expressway project.

The decision not to support the cycle expressway project could lead to budget savings. Yet, the lack of direct public transport connections between the districts in Wolfenbüttel remains a concern. There are also missing cycle paths that connect the districts with each other in Wolfenbüttel.

The CDU faction is against ideologically-driven tax waste and has made it clear that they will not carry any further resolutions that drive the cycle expressway project forward. The search results do not provide the latest update date for the plan of the cycling highway (Radschnellweg) between Salzgitter, Wolfenbüttel, and Braunschweig.

As the situation develops, it is expected that the CDU faction will continue to advocate for budget savings and improved transport infrastructure within the city area.
