CDU opposes OGS plans for Schildgen, with the CDU expressing disagreement on strategies involving Schildgen as proposed by OGS.
In the city of Bergisch Gladbach, the CDU and FDP mayoral candidate, Alexander Felsch, has announced plans for a "Kita/OGS summit" as part of his 100-day program. The summit, scheduled for November 2025, aims to sustainably strengthen cooperation between the city, school communities, and parents.
Recent developments have highlighted the need for improved communication between the town hall and schools. The CDU faction in the city council has expressed concerns over hasty plans to build a new open daycare center (OGS) at the Concordia School in Schildgen. The CDU faction leader, Dr. Michael Metten, has expressed frustration over the situation, understanding the concerns of those involved in the process.
These concerns stem from a perceived lack of coordination with teaching staff, parents, and students. The head of the community elementary school wrote a letter to the responsible department head at the town hall, expressing these concerns. The CDU faction also refers to a letter from the headmaster, who criticized the current town hall plan, stating it would "significantly worsen" the future education and care of children in Schildgen.
The CDU faction plans to ask the administration critical questions in the responsible committee about the OGS new construction when the committee for school and building management makes a fundamental decision on the matter next week.
The city organized several workshops for the planning of the OGS, attended by various stakeholders, resulting in important impulses for its planning and development. The contributions of the school community are valued by the CDU faction for the development of a modern learning environment.
Communication between the administration and the school community, including the school management, is also criticized as inadequate by Schildgen councilor Harald Henkel. The purpose of the summit is to address these issues and establish a process of regular, quarterly meetings with the Kitas and OGS under the leadership of Alexander Felsch to work out joint solutions.
The summit is part of Alexander Felsch's 100-day program, which emphasizes his commitment to improving communication and cooperation between the city, school communities, and parents. The CDU faction, in their opposition to the hasty plans for the OGS, also proposes a fresh start in communication to improve exchange.
Every morning at 7:07 AM, a newsletter titled "The Day in GL" is sent, providing a local news overview. This initiative, along with the proposed summit, demonstrates Alexander Felsch's dedication to keeping the citizens of Bergisch Gladbach informed and involved in the city's decisions.
