Cebu marks International Dog Day with a heartwarming event named 'Paws of Love'

In the heart of Cebu Business Park, the two-day event "Paws of Love" took place on August 22-23, 2025, in Central Park. Organised by the Cebu Creators Circle in partnership with Cebu Business Park and the Ayala Property Management Corp, the event aimed to create lasting change for Cebu's stray animals and inspire more responsible and compassionate care.

The event kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. on Aug. 22. Local influencers hosted a bazaar featuring preloved items and trending products, while musical acts such as Baihaus kept the atmosphere festive.

At the heart of the event was a mission to show compassion for animals who depend on humans. Andrew Doyzkie Buenaviaje, founding president of Cebu Creators Circle, stated, "Paws of Love is a movement to show compassion for animals who depend on humans." Hazel Aguisanda, the founding president of Happy Tails Philippines, echoed this sentiment, calling 'Paws of Love' a "beacon of hope" for Cebu's stray animals.

Happy Tails Philippines, a non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes stray animals, was the primary beneficiary of the event's proceeds. Aguisanda explained that 'Paws of Love' not only provided food and medical care for rescued animals but also reminded the community of their support in the fight for stray animals.

The event also offered free anti-rabies vaccinations from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday to promote responsible pet ownership. A pet food donation drive was held during the event, aiming to collect 700 kilos of dog food.

Mary Catherine "Claire" Codilla, the director for community of the organizing group, highlighted that 'Paws of Love' provided a platform for people to help stray animals. Interested individuals could place their pledge by visiting: https://tinyurl.com/PledgeForPaws.

Claire Codilla also mentioned that people could volunteer, donate, and celebrate at 'Paws of Love' to make an impact on Cebu's stray animals. Aguisanda emphasized that everyone can play a role in building a more compassionate Cebu for both people and pets.

With the combined efforts of the community, 'Paws of Love' was a resounding success, raising funds for food, veterinary care, and shelter for rescued animals under Happy Tails' care. The event served as a reminder that every individual can make a difference in the lives of Cebu's stray animals.
