Celebrating Knowledge Milestones: VHS Dormagen Unveils Anniversary Program Planned with Intriguing Concepts
The Volkshochschule Dormagen has announced its new fall program, which is more extensive and diverse than ever before, as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the city. The program, available online and at various locations, offers over 100 courses and cooperations, catering to various interests and age groups.
In the Politics, Society, and Environment department, participants can attend a lecture on testamentary dispositions, providing legal basics for emergencies. The department also offers city tours in the Cologne Rheinauhafen and fashion history, as well as formats that inform, contextualize, and invite discussion.
The Digital Learning department, a new addition to the VHS Dormagen fall program, offers over 80 additional offerings. This includes the #DigitalTuesday, the ARD series "FaktenSicher für Demokratie," and the free webinar series "vhs goes green." The "vhs goes green" webinar series provides everyday-relevant impulses on climate protection and sustainability.
The Culture and Design area has a new cooperation with Bergische Universität Wuppertal. Students from Bergische Universität Wuppertal developed free, creative course ideas with program area leader Linda Klisch. The regular offerings in the Culture and Design area range from knitting and upcycling courses to improvisation theater and vision board workshops.
In the Health department, lectures on staying healthy in old age, relaxation methods, and culinary gift ideas are offered. The "Qualification for Working Life - IT - Organization & Management" department offers courses promoting digital participation, such as "Staying Connected in Old Age with Digital Products" and "ChatGPT for Actives in Old Age."
Language enthusiasts will find English courses (A1-B2), conversation offers, educational vacations for Italian and Turkish, and a new beginner's Polish course.
Evening classes for the acquisition of the lower secondary school leaving certificate and the intermediate school leaving certificate will start again, with registration deadline on August 20, 2025. Additionally, 3D printing courses are available for all age groups in the "Qualification for Working Life - IT - Organization & Management" department.
Christian Topp, the VHS director, states that the jubilee provided an opportunity to bring more content breadth and new formats into the program. He adds that the VHS Dormagen remains up-to-date, with a focus on individual development, shared learning, and social cohesion.
A printed brochure for the program is expected to be available in the second week of August. Registrations for offers can be made under www.vhs-website or by phone at 02133 257 4179. The program brochure will be available shortly at all known locations and is already available online.
