Celebrating Youth Day: Acquiring Political Knowledge - Assuming Responsibilities

The Youth District Council of Regensburg held a meeting on July 23, 2025, at the Landratsamt to discuss various topics affecting the youth of the district. The meeting was attended by representatives from 15 schools, including Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium, Albrecht-Altdorfer-Gymnasium, and Gymnasium Lappersdorf, among others.

Deputy District Administrator Maria Scharfenberg and District Councilor Irmgard Sauerer were present, along with District Administrator Tanja Schweiger who emphasised the promotion of political participation by young people. The discussion focused on student transportation, digital initiatives, and youth engagement on social media.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the proposal by Timo Heizmann and Emily Grüll from the Special Pedagogical Support Center Regenstauf, suggesting the installation of smoke detectors in all school toilets due to smoking taking place there. The proposal was approved by the Youth District Council.

Harald Hillebrand, head of the department of digitization, spoke about the progress in digital administration. It was revealed that the Regensburg district is a leader among districts in the field of digitization. The majority of young people prefer Instagram and WhatsApp as preferred channels for the district's social media presence, and a fact-based presence on TikTok is also desirable.

The lack of a break area at the Gymnasium Lappersdorf due to ongoing construction measures was addressed, and a possible expansion of the recreational areas is currently being examined.

The Youth District Council, introduced in 2016, aims to bring young people closer to district issues and give them a voice in district politics. The council meets twice a year, traditionally in the summer and just before the Christmas holidays. All important information about the Youth District Council can be found on the homepage of the Regensburg district under "Youth District Council / our organization".

For any questions, the main administration can be contacted at phone: 0941 4009-642, email: [email protected]. The Youth District Council will hold its next meeting in the week before Christmas. The district administrator values direct feedback from young people on social media.
