Celebratory recognition granted twice
In the heart of the Ruhr metropolitan region, two exciting projects have been recognised for their forward-thinking approaches and innovative ideas. The Maximilianpark in Hamm and the Canal Quarter project have both been awarded accolades by the IGA 2027 advisory board.
The Maximilianpark, a green oasis in the city, received the third star in August 2020. This recognition highlights the park's commitment to sustainable urban development, innovative ideas, and green visions. The Maxigarden, a key part of the Maximilianpark, was essentially an IGA star project from the beginning.
The Canal Quarter project in Hamm, another gem in the city's crown, was awarded as one of 30 future projects. This selection underscores its model character for the entire Ruhr metropolitan region. The city behind this project is Mülheim an der Ruhr, with the 'Canal Quarter Hamm' being an existing project that City Building Director Andreas Mentz and his team are actively working on.
The Canal Quarter project was recognised for its forward-thinking plans and initiatives in urban planning, architecture, landscape development, tourism, mobility, and energy. The project's selection is a testament to its potential to shape the future of urban spaces in the region.
Mayor Marc Herter expressed his delight, stating that receiving the third star is a great honour for the Maxipark and underscores its impact beyond Hamm's city limits. Jörg Rogalla, Maxipark Managing Director, shared similar sentiments, expressing joy that their successful work over the past years has now been crowned with the third star.
