Alex Dixon Steps Down as Resorts World Las Vegas CEO; Carlos Castro Fills the Vacancy
It's official: Alex Dixon, the CEO of Resorts World Las Vegas, has stepped down from his position. With a swift shake-up at the casino's top, the company's COO/CFO, Carlos Castro, has taken over as President and CFO, while Dixon moves to a senior advisor role on the board.
Just five months into his tenure, Dixon's exit was announced by the board early Thursday. Prior to joining Resorts World, Dixon served as the CEO of the Q Casino & Resort and the Dubuque Racing Association in Iowa.
In the wake of this change, Carlos Castro is in charge, ready to steer the property and make a lasting impact on the casino's future. Murren, chairman of the board, lauded Castro's strategic moves so far, including attracting talented personnel and resetting the company's strategy, marketing, and operations.
A Winding Path to the Top
Resorts World, the iconic red property nestled on the north end of the Strip, has faced its fair share of challenges, most notably an illegal betting scandal in 2023. The casino resolved this issue in March, agreeing to a $10.5 million settlement with the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Despite the settlement, the Control Board maintains the option to pursue additional disciplinary action if federal authorities pursue legal action.
The scandal's aftermath saw a series of personnel changes within Resorts World, including the ousting of former president and COO Scott Sibella in 2023, the departures of Doni Taube and Richard Corbett in 2024, and the arrivals of Dixon and Castro. The company formed a new board in response, which Jim Murren now chairs and features A.G. Burnett, former NGCB chair, as well as former Nevada Governor and Nevada Gaming Commission chair Brian Sandoval.
In an effort to bolster its regulatory compliance and responsible gaming initiative, the casino resort recently announced the addition of Jennifer Roberts as its first chief compliance officer.
In closing, Murren emphasized that despite a tumultuous year, the team believes they have the best leadership in place to drive growth and deliver an exceptional experience for their guests.
