Ninth and Tenth Region Tennis Stars Qualify for State Tournament

The Ninth and Tenth Regions in Kentucky have produced some of the best tennis talent, with several players and teams securing their spots in the state tournament.

In the boys' singles category, Alex Yeager, Shayaan Ahmad, Neel Reddy, Naveeth Selveraju from Covington Catholic, Finlay Mackay from the 8th Region, and Kaylin Lovell and Rylee Ritter from the 10th Region are the qualifiers. The Covington Catholic boys earned a return trip to the season finale by defeating Beechwood, 3-0, in the 9th Region final.

The girls' singles competition sees Kayla Johnson from Cooper, Sadie Jones from Beechwood, and Kaylin Lovell and Rylee Ritter from the 10th Region representing their regions. Johnson clinched the 9th Region title with a victory against Jones with scores of 6-4, 6-3. Last year, no 9th Region's state tournament qualifiers made it to the quarterfinals in girls singles.

The doubles events are equally competitive. In the 9th Region, Avery Love and Niveditha Salvaraju from Ryle, Cassidy Derry and Isabella Norvell from Dixie Heights, Maggie Kute and Lyndsey Payne, and Isabella Mcelwee and Malia Christensen are the qualifiers. The doubles final was a close contest, with Derry and Norvell losing to Love and Salvaraju with scores of 6-2, 6-1. The 8th Region is represented by Gabrielle Browning and Hope Dupin, Annika Derks and Natalie Lukey, and Chris Wells and Cameron Wells from the 10th Region.

The Covington Catholic boys and Notre Dame girls will represent the 9th Region in the state team tennis tournaments. Notre Dame girls clinched the 9th Region title by defeating Ryle, 3-1. The first-round matches for both the Covington Catholic boys and Notre Dame girls in the state team tennis tournaments are scheduled for June 3.

All the region finalists in both girls singles and doubles will advance to the state tournament at the University of Kentucky on May 27-29. This year, the state tournament promises to be an exciting event, showcasing the best tennis talent from across Kentucky.
