Chaotic incident in a city bar: Crowd members struck intentionally as driver rams into pedestrians; details surrounding the fatal accident in Evreux

In the early hours of August 29, 2020, a devastating incident occurred at La Winery wine bar in the heart of Evreux, Normandy. The incident resulted in one man's death and five injuries, two of whom are in critical condition.

The altercation, which took place between several people, including a young woman and several men, within the wine bar, escalated and led to the tragic events. Following the altercation, the bouncers evacuated around a hundred people from the premises.

Unfortunately, a vehicle deliberately reversed at high speed into the crowd outside the wine bar, causing further harm. As a result, three people have been placed in custody in connection with the incident, and two individuals inside the vehicle and a third outside were taken into custody at the Evreux police station.

The investigation for homicide and attempted homicide has been opened, with no terrorist, racist, or other motive ruled out at this time. The magistrate believes the incident is likely the result of an altercation between clients of the wine bar.

Katiana Levavasseur, the RN deputy of the 2nd constituency of Eure, expressed her compassion for the victims, their families, and witnesses, condemning the senseless violence. Guy Lefrand, the mayor of Evreux, also expressed his emotion and solidarity with the victims, their families, and loved ones on his Facebook account.

The bar owner, Jean-Baptiste Lebon, has been repeatedly urged by city authorities to adhere to regular opening hours. The mayor of Evreux, Guy Lefrand, has blamed the bar owner for the incident, accusing him of breaking his closing hours. An investigation has been opened into the incident to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Despite the tragic events, the situation in Evreux is now calm. Emergency services were unable to revive the deceased man, who was in his thirties. The two critically injured individuals are a 31-year-old man and a 52-year-old man. Our thoughts remain with the victims, their families, and the people of Evreux during this difficult time.
