Charity event to cycle throughout the night, aiming to raise funds for a domestic abuse support organization
Mickey Burns, a 44-year-old resident of London, is gearing up for an extraordinary challenge. He will be cycling more than 200 miles from Chiswick, London to Liverpool for a fundraiser in support of Centre 56, a charity that provides support to families facing domestic abuse.
This ambitious journey was inspired by Mickey's involvement in Centre 56's previous fundraiser, led by Alex Rigby. A leaflet suggesting a 232-mile "spinathon" further sparked his interest, and he decided to take on this challenging route.
The route of this epic cycling event will begin at the site of the UK's first women's refuge, which was set up by Chiswick Women's Aid in 1971. Centre 56, established in 1973 and based in Liverpool, opened the first women's refuge outside London.
Mickey's team of three will drive the route, providing food and support. Their main role will be to keep him cycling throughout the journey. The fundraiser will take place from Thursday evening to Friday, with Mickey planning to start cycling around 6 or 7 PM, depending on the weather, to avoid heavy traffic.
The destination of this gruelling ride is Centre 56's family fun day on Friday, which runs from 11am to 2.30pm. Mickey hopes to be greeted in Liverpool by staff and supporters at the event.
Mickey's brother, Brendan, is also fundraising for the charity and plans to run the London Marathon next year. To donate to Brendan's fundraising efforts, visit 2026tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/brendan-burns.
Centre 56 no longer operates a refuge but continues to support families facing domestic abuse, including with a specialist nursery. Mickey's fundraiser is a testament to his commitment to this cause and his desire to make a difference.
As Mickey embarks on this challenging journey, we wish him the best of luck and look forward to hearing about his incredible achievements.
