Chelsea has faced a prolonged losing streak due to the summer recruit's injury setback.

Chelsea have been hit by a double blow with the news that both Wesley Fofana and Christopher Nkunku will be sidelined for significant parts of the season due to knee injuries.

Wesley Fofana, who joined Chelsea earlier this year but has yet to make his debut for the club, is out for at least six months following a knee ACL rupture. This unfortunate incident occurred before the start of the new season, and the defender's recovery period is expected to last until at least the spring.

Fofana's injury has forced Chelsea to sign Axel Disasi from Monaco as a replacement. Disasi, like Fofana, is a defender, and his arrival at Stamford Bridge was necessitated by the Frenchman's injury.

Meanwhile, Nkunku, who joined Chelsea this summer, is also recovering from a serious meniscus injury. The Athletic reports that he will not be able to resume group training until at least four months after his surgery. Nkunku's contract with Chelsea runs until the summer of 2029.

Like Fofana, Nkunku's injury will cause him to miss a substantial part of the season. However, the German forward is expected to return to the field several weeks after his operation, typically within 4 to 8 weeks, depending on his recovery progress.

The good news for Chelsea is that Disasi has joined the squad to bolster their defence. The Frenchman's contract runs until the summer of 2027, providing Chelsea with a long-term option at the back.

The club agreed to a transfer with German club RB Leipzig for €60 million to acquire Nkunku. Despite his injury, the forward's signing was a major coup for Chelsea, and fans will be eagerly awaiting his return to the pitch.

In the meantime, Chelsea will hope that both Fofana and Nkunku make a full recovery and can contribute to the team's success in the second half of the season.
