Cheltenham Festival champion Stumptown gears up for formidable Velka Pardubicka hurdle: "This cross-country race takes things to an entirely new height"

In the world of horse racing, the anticipation for the new season is palpable, and trainer Gavin Cromwell is no exception. With the reigning Gold Cup champion, Inothewayurthinkin, back in the yard, and cross-country specialist Stumptown gearing up for the Velka Pardubicka, Cromwell is eagerly looking forward to the challenges ahead.

Inothewayurthinkin, who clinched last year's Gold Cup, has been in fine form according to Cromwell, who expressed his excitement at having the champion back. While the plan for the horse's season is yet to be finalised, the John Durkan could potentially be its starting point.

Meanwhile, Stumptown, who has won four out of five starts over cross-country courses since 2024, is set to compete in the Velka Pardubicka. Cromwell is optimistic about his chances, believing that the horse will relish the challenge of the track. The trainer recalled that Stumptown was well-fancied for last season's Aintree marathon but was unfortunately pulled up due to a wound.

The debate surrounding the use of pacemakers in races has been a topic of discussion in the racing community. Some believe that a pacemaker could potentially threaten an upset in a Group 1 race. However, Cromwell remains focused on his horses and their preparations.

The privilege of training the reigning Gold Cup champion is not lost on Cromwell. He views the pressure of training the champion as wonderful pressure to have. The added pressure of going into the new season with the reigning Gold Cup champion brings a unique sense of responsibility, but one that Cromwell is ready to shoulder.

As the new season approaches, the spotlight is on Cromwell and his horses. With Inothewayurthinkin and Stumptown in top form, it promises to be an exciting season ahead.
