China and Vietnam constructing on past connections for a promising future, affirms Chinese Ambassador
In a significant turn of events, high-level officials from both Vietnam and China have been making historic visits and forging agreements that promise to deepen the relationship between the two countries.
Last August, Chinese President and Party General Secretary Xi Jinping paid a groundbreaking visit to Vietnam, marking the beginning of a joint commitment to build a China-Vietnam community with a shared future. This community, with its strategic significance, is a testament to the shared struggle of the two nations for national independence and symbolises the traditional bond of being "comrades and brothers."
Fast forward to the SCO Summit 2025, Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was in attendance, demonstrating the country's determination to advance deeper international integration. The SCO, which now comprises ten member states, fourteen dialogue partners, and two observer countries, has introduced a model of cooperation aimed at safeguarding peace, promoting prosperity, improving people's livelihoods, and looking towards the future.
In a series of meetings, Zhao Leji, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, held discussions with top Vietnamese leaders. During his visit, he participated in the 80th anniversary ceremony of the August Revolution and Vietnamese National Day on September 2, 2025, and co-chaired the first session of the cooperation committee between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the NPC.
The "3+3" strategic dialogue mechanism in diplomacy, defence, and public security between China and Vietnam was upgraded to the ministerial level during Xi Jinping's state visit in April 2025. This upgrade signifies a stronger commitment to collaborate on various levels.
Vietnam's State President Luong Cuong will also be visiting China from September 2-4 to attend a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the world people's victory over fascism. This event not only marks a new step forwards in institutionalised cooperation between the two countries, but also contributes to promoting the building of a socialist rule-of-law state in each country, while expanding space for the stable and sustainable development of the Vietnam-China friendship.
Looking ahead, bilateral cooperation will focus on several key areas, including politics, practical cooperation, and strengthening connectivity in production and supply chains, raising the quality of trade and investment, and expanding collaboration in hi-tech fields. The ambassador also mentioned that this cooperation is a reflection of the determination of the two socialist countries to safeguard regime and national security while contributing to regional and global peace and stability.
The September 3 ceremony in China is a platform for nations to honour the humankind's fight for justice and peace. The visits and agreements between the leaders of Vietnam and China underscore the shared history, values, and aspirations of the two nations, and promise a bright future for their relationship.
