Chinese actress Xin Zhilei earns Best Actress award at Venice for her subtle portrayal in Cai Shangjun's film, "The Sun Rises on Us All"

Xin Zhilei, a rising star in Chinese cinema, has made a significant mark on the international stage after winning the Best Actress award at the prestigious Venice Film Festival. The award was for her role in the film The Sun Rises on Us All, directed by Cai Shangjun.

Born and raised in the far north of China, near the border with Russia, Xin first gained recognition in cinema with the film Crosscurrent, which won an award for cinematography at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2016. Since then, she has starred in Chinese blockbusters and several popular television series in her native country.

In The Sun Rises on Us All, Xin plays a woman trying to make amends with her former lover, who served time in prison for a crime she had committed. The protagonists in the film are paralyzed by bitterness and regret, and unspoken words play a large part in the story. Xin's character is described as a normal woman, neither good nor bad.

Xin found it exhilarating to work on the film, and her performance was praised by Variety, who commended her and co-star Zhang Songwen for their convincing chemistry. On stage, after accepting her award, Xin expressed pride in herself and stated that working on The Sun Rises on Us All is part of a great work.

This is Xin's first major recognition in Europe, and she succeeds Australian actress Nicole Kidman in the Best Actress category. The dramas of the past emerge in small touches in the film, and Xin's portrayal of a woman grappling with her past is both poignant and powerful.

Xin had a notable role in Blossom Shanghai, a series directed by Hong Kong cinema legend Wong Kar-wai. The series was a spectacular success in China, and Xin's performance was highly acclaimed.

With this win at the Venice Film Festival, Xin Zhilei is poised to continue her ascent in the world of international cinema. Her talent and dedication to her craft are undeniable, and we can expect to see much more of her in the future.
