Chinese market receives the first reduction drive specifically designed for NEVs, crafted by ZF
ZF Transmissions Shanghai Completes Production of New Reduction Drive for New Energy Vehicles
ZF Transmissions Shanghai (ZFTS), a division of the global automotive supplier ZF Group, has completed the production of its new reduction drive for new energy vehicles (NEVs) at a plant located in Shanghai. The new reduction drive is a key component in electric drivetrains and is designed specifically for the Chinese domestic NEV market.
The production of the new reduction drive is significant as it marks a step forward in the development of new energy vehicles. The design of the reducers includes a compact axial parallel architecture, which makes them more efficient and reduces noise levels, adhering to local regulations.
The new reduction drive is a product of a joint venture between ZF (China) Investment Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Automobile Gear Works (SAGW), now known as ZF Transmissions Shanghai (ZFTS). The formation of ZFTS took place in 2004.
The first units of the reducers have been earmarked for "one of China's leading automotive manufacturers." Leapmotor, a Chinese automobile manufacturer, will produce the first production units of ZFTS's new reduction gearbox in an SUV from mid-2025. The first vehicle Start of Production (SOP) for the reducers is scheduled for late 2025.
Mass production for the reducers is expected to commence now that the first units have been delivered. No production forecasts have been released for the reducers at this time. The production of the new reduction drive is a testament to ZFTS's commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility solutions.
The new reduction drive is intended for use in new energy vehicles and is a product of ZF Group's division, ZF Transmissions Shanghai (ZFTS). The production of the new reduction drive at the Shanghai plant further cements ZFTS's position as a leading supplier of transmission systems for the Chinese NEV market.
