British label, Studio Nicholson, made a bold entrance into the world of custom tailoring with a suit designed for Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, who attended the world premiere of Steve at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Nick Wakeman, the creative director of Studio Nicholson, spoke about the importance of the event for the label. He stated, "Reinventing menswear codes with careful consideration of fabric and how it's applied is my raison d'être. This suit for Cillian Murphy was a significant moment for us."

The suit, designed in London, one of the city's most distinctive menswear labels, was commissioned by Cillian Murphy himself, in collaboration with stylist Rose Forde. The black needlecord suit, provided by Studio Nicholson, was designed to reflect Cillian Murphy's off-duty wardrobe and the vibe of TIFF.

The blazer of the suit was inspired by Wakeman's Roversi jacket from the '90s, but with narrower shoulders, a trimmer waist, and a longer line. The trousers were based on Studio Nicholson's Bill pant, but made from Italian-milled cord for a more premium feel. Details on the suit were refined in Studio Nicholson's atelier, while staying true to their design principles of modernizing and refining everyday garments without unnecessary frill.

The white poplin shirt Cillian Murphy wore was also by Studio Nicholson, adding a touch of elegance to the suit. The suit's design aimed to be personal and less flashy, a departure from most actors' glossy tuxedos at the event.

Studio Nicholson's suit for Cillian Murphy at the TIFF premiere was designed to stretch their codes onto the red carpet while maintaining a relaxed vibe. Tim Mielants directed the film, which is an adaptation of Max Porter's 2023 novella. This custom suit is considered a significant moment for the British label, marking their venture into custom tailoring and showcasing their unique approach to red carpet fashion.
